Army chief visits troops in frontline of fight vs insurgency

The Commanding General, Philippine Army (CGPA) visited soldiers in remote areas of the 8th Infantry “Stormtroopers” Division on August 6 to 7, 2021.

Maj. Gen. Andres Centino has been visiting the Army’s remote detachments as part of his commitment to boost the morale of troops and reiterate the command’s drive in finishing the insurgency in the country.

The CGPA went to various 8ID Patrol Bases (PB) including Tagab-Iran PB of the 20th Infantry Battalion in Las Navas, Northern Samar; Maslog PB of the 52nd Infantry Battalion in Maslog, Eastern Samar; and the Maligaya PB of the 14th Infantry Battalion in Mahaplag, Leyte. He also visited the 801st Brigade, 802nd Brigade, and 803rd Brigade, and CAFGU Active Auxiliary units in Samar and Leyte.

Uniforms, medicines, medical equipment, and other supplies were given to the troops to aid their needs as they perform their mission. Gaps and other issues of the respective units were also discussed during the visit.

The CGPA also lauded 8ID’s overall accomplishments in maintaining peace and security in 8ID’s areas of responsibility in the Visayas region. He then directed the troops to remain focused on their mission by prioritizing efforts that will destroy the enemy as well as to always uphold the highest form of discipline and professionalism in their duty.

“Remember the timeline, remember the task, remember what should be done and what should not be done,” said the CGPA during his talk to the troops.

“While we direct our troops to do their jobs, we must also show compassion and care by visiting even the most remote patrol bases. As I’ve said, the Army is out there, out in the fields and not in the confinement of the Headquarters alone. Rest assured that we are here to support you,” he said. PHILIPPINE ARMY
