AFP chief supports Marines’ Archipelagic Coastal Defense Concept

General Cirilito E. Sobejana PA, Chief of Staff, AFP, visited the Headquarters Philippine Marine Corps and talked to the troops on June 9, 2021.

In his first visit to the Philippine Marine Corps, Gen. Sobejana recognized and honored the fallen Marines who bravely fought for peace and security of this nation. He offered a wreath at the heroes’ memorial. Subsequently, he talked to the men, women, and human resource personnel of the Corps.

MGen. Ariel R. Caculitan PN(M), Commandant, Philippine Marine Corps, presented the Archipelagic Coastal Defense (ACD) Concept and the modernization plan to capacitate the Marine Operating Forces that will complement with other branches of service of the AFP.

Responding to the presentation, Gen. Sobejana appreciated the efforts of the Marines as responsive and relevant to the operating environment. “As an archipelagic nation, it is very important for us in the AFP to fully develop our maritime forces to promptly and effectively address and respond to the current and future maritime security threats. The Philippine Marine Corps has a clearly defined concept of its role in adapting to the current and future operating environments.” Gen. Sobejana remarked on the ACD concept.

He emphasized, “Our end state is to achieve long and lasting peace and progress. That is the primary reason why we reach war against the adversaries and enemies of the state. Let us win the peace, rather than just win the war.” PHILIPPINE MARINE CORPS
