Fresh from their successful stint in the recently concluded Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2020 Exercise, members of the Naval Task Group 80.5 met with the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (CSAFP), Lt. Gen. Gilbert I. Gapay, in a virtual Talk To Troops today, September 3 (HST).
Together with other senior officers of the AFP, Lieutenant General Gapay virtually addressed and congratulated the officers and personnel aboard BRP Jose Rizal (FF150) for their successful participation in the world’s largest joint and combined naval exercise on behalf of our country and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
“Naipakita ninyo sa iba’t-ibang sandatahang lakas, sa iba’t-ibang bansa ang galing ng sundalong Pilipino.” said Gapay while enjoining the NTG 80.5 personnel “to impart the proficiencies that you have gained from the training exercises with the objective of augmenting the scope of capabilities of the Philippine Navy in fulfilling its mandate as the first line of defense of our maritime territories.”
“Given the fast-paced transformation in the maritime domain security in recent years, both locally and globally, the acquisition of the BRP Jose Rizal is a timely upgrade to the Navy’s current assets and definitely amplifies our capabilities in terms of maritime operability and readiness for potential threats to our territories,” added Gapay.
NTG 80.5 members reciprocated the recognition given them by the CSAFP through sharing some of their memorable experiences during the RIMPAC exercises.
The virtual activity was also joined by the Navy flag officer in command, Vice Adm. Giovanni Carlo Bacordo, Navy vice commander, Rear Adm. Rey Dela Cruz, fleet commander, Rear Adm. Loumer Bernabe, and was also watched in the headquarters of Philippine Navy led by the chief of naval staff, Rear Adm. Adeluis Bordado, and Fleet-Marine Ready Force led by BGen Armel Tolato.
In his earlier statement, FF150 commanding officer and concurrent contingent commander, Capt. Jerry Garrido Jr., praised the members of NTG 80.5 for their dedication in promoting the PN’s objective of strengthening relationship and multilateral ties among foreign navies with the PN’s participation in this year’s RIMPAC.
The Philippine Navy’s participation in the Rim of the Pacific 2020 Exercise echoes the AFPs commitment in promoting multilateral cooperation leading to the strengthening of relationship and cooperation among regional and extra regional navies. NAVY.MIL.PH
