While conducting security operation, troops of the 32nd Infantry Battalion were fired upon by undetermined number of local terrorist group members in Barangay Taong, Patikul, Sulu at 11am, July 31.
Exchange of fires ensued which resulted in the deaths of six enemies.
Three soldiers paid the ultimate sacrifice while three others were wounded in the said encounter.
“It is with deep sadness to report that three of our brave soldiers succumbed to death while defending the people of Sulu,” said Maj. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, JTF Sulu Commander.
“We seek for prayers for the eternal repose of their souls and for the speedy recovery of the wounded soldiers,” Maj. Gen. Vinluan added.
While scouring the encounter site, troops recovered the remains of three of the six slain enemies.
Likewise, battle casualties were immediately extricated from the area and evacuated to Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital.
Identities of the slain terrorists are yet to be determined while those of the military casualties are withheld pending notification to their next of kin.
“The men and women of WestMinCom commiserates with the bereaved families of our fallen heroes who dedicated their life serving their beloved country,” said Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, WestMinCom Commander.
