With the desire to help needy Dumagat Indigenous People, the personnel of the 48th Infantry (GUARDIANS) Battalion contributed their 1-day food allowance each to help Dumagat families living at Sitio Bato, Barangay Sapang Bulac, DRT, Bulacan on April 25, 2020 that benefited 70 Dumagat families.
Each of the 70 families received five (5) kilos of rice, five (5) canned goods and five (5) pieces of instant noodles.
Present during the giving of relief goods are: Lieutenant Colonel Felix Emeterio M. Valdez, Commanding Officer of 49IB; representatives of Local Government Unit (LGU); Barangay Council of Sapang Bulac; Jesus Christ the River of Life and Grace Church; and, Dumagat Tribal Chieftain of Sitio Bato.
Lieutenant Colonel Valdez said, “Our unit voluntarily agreed to contribute our one (1) day meal allowance in our desire to show love and compassion to our IP brothers. May this encourage other kind-hearted individuals to also do their share in helping the needy people of ours.”
Colonel Andrew D. Costelo, Commander of Army’s 703rd Brigade, praised 48IB personnel for their worthy cause, and said, “Taking care of our needy people is one of the priority tasks of the Army even before the COVID-19 pandemic, moreso the IPs, as they are among the most vulnerable sector, especially during this crisis.” 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division, Philippine Army
