22.7M worth of shabu seized, 50 drug suspects nabbed

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, PGen Archie Gamboa commended anew the PNP Drug Enforcement Group and Police Regional Offices for their sustained operations against the illegal drug trade in the country.

During the one-week anti-drugs operations conducted by PNP units in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), a total of Php 22,783,300 of estimated value of shabu was seized from 50 drug suspects from June 15 to June 20, 2020.

Based on police reports reaching the PNP Command Center in Camp Crame, the total amount has an estimated weight of 2.6 kilograms of shabu. The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) intensifies their campaign against illegal drugs with relentless buy-bust operations conducted in different cities including Parañaque City, Caloocan City, Navotas City, Quezon City, Marikina City, Pasig City, City of Manila, Taguig City, and Las Piñas City.

“The PNP’s intensified operations vs illegal drugs has produced unprecedented victories despite the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. I laud the PDEG, our PROs, and local police units for sustaining our gains,” Gamboa said.

Among the highlights of these continuing accomplishments of the PNP in week-long drug operations include the arrest of two (2) drug suspects by the elements of District Drug Enforcement Unit of the Northern Police District for carrying Php 1,360,000 worth of shabu in Caloocan City last June 15, and the confiscation of Php 1,360,000 worth of shabu from a drug suspect in a buy-bust operation launched by the Drug Enforcement Unit of Tacloban City Police Office last June 19.

Last June 18, an 18-year-old drug suspect who considered as a high value target was arrested along with his partner for possessing Php 11,605,000 worth of shabu weighing 1.055 kg in Brgy Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.

Meanwhile, the operatives of Tinglayan Municipal Police Station uprooted and burned on site last June 15, around 13,500 fully grown marijuana plants with an estimated value of Php 2,800,000 that were planted by unidentified suspects on a 1,100 square meters land area in Ara, Brgy Tulgao West, Tinglayan, Kalinga.

Also, a 60-year-old American national was arrested by PDEA elements with Maydolong MPS for possessing seven (7) sachets of marijuana leaves last June 18 in Brgy. Omawas, Maydolong, Eastern Samar.

The PNP Chief said, “Let me reiterate this warning. The PNP will be relentless in our pursuit of criminals behind illegal drugs. We will go after high value targets as well as backyard operations that prey on the youth.” PNP-PIO
