Parañaque police operatives arrested two suspected “Akyat-Bahay” gang members who allegedly stole a collection of antique religious artifacts on Friday.
PNP Chief, Police General Debold M Sinas identified the arrested suspects as RESTY LAZARO, 23; and MARK IVAN BERNABE, 25; both residents of Lazaro Compound, Area 1 Fourth Estate, Barangay San Antonio, Parañaque City.
The two suspects were arrested just hours after the victim, Enrico Deogracias Francisco,49, discovered the burglary at his house along Banner Ave, Fourth Estate Barangay San Antonio Parañaque City at 7:00 AM on Friday.
He said the burglars may have gained entry through a sliding side door that was left open.
In his complaint before investigators of Parañaque Police Station, Francisco said among items stolen from his collection were a Jesus Christ crucifix, Virgin Mary image in glass case, Bell, Sto. Niño, Brass pitchers, wood carvings and a painting.
While driving back to his house minutes later, the victim saw one of the suspects along the road carrying the stolen items inside a green ecobag with the crucifix protruding from the bag.
He immediately went back to the Police Station to report what he saw and duty officers responded swiftly to arrest the suspects and recover the stolen items.
“With citizen support and cooperation, the capacity of the police to solve crime is significantly increased.” Sinas said. PHILIPPINE NATIONAL POLICE
