Works for extension of LRT 2 to Antipolo enter final phase

The ceremonial track laying and installation of electromechanical systems (EMS) of the LRT Line 2 East Extension Project was held today, April 16, 2019.

“As part of the final phase of the rail extension project, the track works and the integration of the EMS into the existing system are expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2020,” the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said.

DOTr said that currently, the LRT Line 2 East extension project is at 60% completion rate.

“Once completed, it will significantly reduce travel time from Recto in┬áManila to Masinag in Antipolo, Rizal to just 40 minutes from three hours via bus or jeepney,” it added.

DOTr also noted that the extension project was designed to accommodate an additional 80,000 passengers daily, which will increase the current average ridership of 240,000 passengers daily.
